Einar Viðar Guðmundsson Thoroddsen: Centre Page Poster Issue 180
Einar Viðar Guðmundsson Thoroddsen is an artist, printmaker and graphic designer based in Iceland. His practice is in constant flux, shifting from design toward fine art, with a focus on printmaking, experimentation, and material processes. Design has not been completely put in the backseat; instead, it coexists within this new area of exploration.
Mesmerised by urban decay and the forms and compositions in his surroundings, Einar's current interests and works explore weathering, time, and layered histories, both in the material sense, and in people's mannerisms and social behaviours. Questioning authorship and drawing influence from the urban landscape and overlooked details of everyday life, he approaches his work by diving headfirst into the making phase, treating it as an open-ended process where mistakes and chance play just as big a role as the final outcome. His practice is marked by curiosity and a search for the unexpected, especially in mistakes, which is where things get interesting.
